Scenes from the farm of Sam Dinos - Hog Heaven. The garden is totally organic with 20 raised beds and four in- ground beds for okra, peppers, beans, peas, tomatoes and eggplant. Five spring garden beds contain asparagus, snow peas, kale, collards, broccoli, broccolini, garlic, beets, spinach, butter lettuce, carrots and onions. In the greenhouse ready to go the second week of May are tomatoes, peppers, four varieties of squash, eggplant, lady peas, four varieties of basil, and a large variety of flowers for pollination. To be direct sown are beans (several varieties), cucumbers, okra, and several more flowers.
Sam has gardened since her twenties, mostly flowers, but vegetables for the last eight years and on this larger scale for five years. The garden is for family although when there is a large abundance, it is shared with neighbors or charities like the Faith House.
Chickens don’t have names-- just Sammy’s chickens-- and we are hoping to have her eggs at the sidewalk sale June 1.
